Interaction Information:

Comment A secondary analysis of a randomized, double-blind, placebo, controlled study conducted in twenty five overweight/obese adults with impaired fasting glucose or untreated diabetes was performed. Participants were randomized to three months of sensitizer therapy consisting of pioglitazone (45mg per day) plus metformin (1000mg twice per day, N=12 participants) or placebo. The plasma phenylalanine and tyrosine concentrations were reduced as were the plasma concentrations of glutamic acid, arginine, citrulline, aspartic acid, lysine, alpha-aminoadipic acid, and ethanolamine. In contrast, insulin sensitizer therapy increased the plasma serine and glycine concentration.
