Reference: Clark KA et al.(2008) Systemic administration of leptin decreases plasma corticosterone levels: role of hypothalamic norepinephrine. Brain Res. 1195: 89-95 [PMID: 18191822]

Interaction Information:

Comment Leptin administration decreased norepinephrine (NE) release in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) significantly by 30 min. It also significantly reduced plasma corticosterone (CS) levels at 240 and 300 min. Administration of either phenylephrine (PHE) or clonidine (CLON) in combination with leptin prevented the leptin-induced decrease in CS. In contrast, administration of isoproterenol (ISO) along with leptin did not prevent the leptin-induced decrease in CS. These results indicate that leptin decreases hypothalamic NE and plasma CS and that this effect is most probably mediated through alpha-adrenergic receptors.
