Transfection of the DJ-1 siRNA reduced the protein levels of the endogenous DJ-1 by more than 70% and resulted in decrease of the mRNA expression of genes involved in reactive oxygen species (ROS) removal, such as MnSOD, catalase, glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) and glutathione peroxidase 1 (Gpx1).
